What is Sin?
Sin is difficult to define by worldly standards.  Some may believe it only includes murder or rape.  Some think it spans to cheating and carelessness.  The Bible, however, is crystal clear;

"So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming." Colossians 3:5-6

 In short, sin is a word that describes anything that fails to meet God's standard of perfection - Bible Answer Book

This is very difficult for most to comprehend, because we immediately think, "Well, doesn't that make everyone a sinner?"  The truthful answer is, YES!  The Bible also clearly demonstrates this fact in Romans 3:23, "For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard."

The penalty for sin is death.  We are all going to die someday because of our sin.  The good news is that we've been sent a Savior, Jesus Christ.  Jesus was slain, tortured, ridiculed and sent to die on a cross for your sin.  Because he rose three days later, you are able to live.  In arguably it's most famous verse, the Bible teaches that if you acknowledge that Jesus was sent to die on the cross for your sin, and believe it in your heart, you will be rewarded with eternal life.  "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."  John 3:16
